PichiAvo "An offering to Athens"

Athens has gained a new visual landmark, as the internationally acclaimed artistic duo PichiAvo recently completed a large-scale mural in the heart of the city.

Standing over 15 metres tall, the work focuses on the figure of the goddess Athena and the myth of the olive tree. According to mythology, Poseidon struck the rock of the Acropolis with his trident, causing water to spring forth, while Athena offered the city the first olive tree — a precious gift that provided food, oil, and wood. The citizens judged her offering to be the more beneficial one, granting the city her name.

PichiAvo’s visual approach combines classical aesthetics with the energy of contemporary street art, creating a vivid dialogue between Athens’ past and present. The work follows their signature practice, in which ancient Greek iconography coexists with graffiti elements, striking a balance between harmony and tension.

It is worth noting that the mural was created — almost symbolically — on a wall located on Pallados Street, at 28–30 Pallados, immediately evoking Athena Pallas, the city’s patron goddess. This coincidence strengthens the narrative core of the work, bringing the figure of Athena into a space that already carries her name and reconnecting the urban landscape with its mythological memory.

“This is a myth that inspires us deeply. Through the gift of the olive tree, Athena is revealed not only as a warrior, but above all as a symbol of wisdom and foresight. Perhaps this story can also serve as a reminder that Athens may continue to be a starting point for conscious and wise choices for the future,” the artists note.

Creating a mural in Athens had been a personal dream for PichiAvo, one that was brought to life with the support of the Municipality of Athens, the Embassy of Spain in Greece, and the Awesome Athens Experiences team. The high-quality, durable paints used for the artwork were generously sponsored by KRAFT Paints.
