Epsilionartndesign "Fight for freedom"

With a raised hand in the center holding the quintessential symbols of freedom in Portugal and Greece—the bright red carnation and the white dove with outstretched wings – the new mural by street artist Yannis Ermides at the 7th Gymnasium of Halandri perfectly captures the common need that united the thousands who took to the streets to overthrow the dictatorship of António de Oliveira Salazar with those who had rebelled at the Polytechnic in 1973.

The two very close moments in time of anti-dictatorial struggle are part of the so-called "third wave of democratization" in the world, which, after Greece and Portugal, spread to Spain and Latin America. The project was implemented on the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, with the support of the Portuguese Embassy and the Camões I.P. Institute, while Awesome Athens Experiences was responsible for organizing the event.
